That's the view from my new office. My department is in an old hospital. The old brick buildings are used for the university now, but it's protected as heritage, so they can't change even the colors on the walls - the class rooms still go by "the 16-bed room". Our department actually lies in the Dr's residences... so there are old bathtubs in the bathrooms!! and a kitchen on each floor - and a little garden out back with magnolia trees.

Me and the cats are busy packing AGAIN... I get a bit depressed thinking about how much time I spent painting, hanging up curtains and lamps, figuring out the best way to fit my life into this space... and now I have to do it all over again... and just for a year. My job is a one year contract (somebody else's maternity leave). If all works out and they get more money, they might want to keep me... but so far I only know that I'll stay for one year... The new place is painted and comes with curtains, so it isn't really that bad...
Just packing and moving is a drag.
The cat's help me though:
After a bit of frenetic searching I have a home on the outskirts of Copenhagen... about twice the price of my old home, but available immediately.. It's the bottom half of a house and the landlady lives upstairs. I get the garden... which is right down to the beach... Looks fantastic... my aunt started talking about flooding immediately.. I kinda hadn't thought of that. But who cares, it's for one year. Hopefully it won't flood this year.

So, still haven't moved my stuff over... haven't even packed it all up yet... but working on it. There's no internet yet... and I sleep on an inflated mattress, but I don't have to commute 3-4 hours each way.
The cats were NOT amused with their first encounter with new home. Kitty stayed in the transport crate until next morning.. I guess she finally gave up on waiting in there for me to take her back home.
Urracá was a bit nervous the first day, but after that he's been running all over the empty house, even trying to run UP the brick walls...
Kitty managed to get herself into the fireplace... white cat.. black ashes... footprints all over... fantastic!
She is self cleaning fortunately... and I have to think of some way of blocking that because she seemed to have enjoyed it way too much..

Now back to packing boxes again!
Oh, but while I am too busy, please visit two of my bestest friends from Panama who have both recently started blogging. They are both biologists and take fantastic pictures of wildlife. One is Panemma, and the other is Lyra.
I got a job!
Woohooo. I'll be a data manager and statistician... from the 14'th. Time to brush up on statistics arrrgh!
My new job is right next to the botanical gardens in Copenhagen... which is a 3 hour commute from where I live... so I need to find a place to live somewhere a wee bit closer! Fortunately my fabulous uncle will let me squat at his place until I find a place.... and my fabulous mom will look after the critters...
Oooh, just the logistics of this is already confusing me.
Good thing it's only four days a week to start with.
Last weekend, I had planned to visit my bff (best friend forever) to harvest willow and sit outside in the nice spring weather and weave baskets for a couple of days...
Turns out, the nice spring weather had other plans

Pretty as it was, it was bitterly cold, and we decided to stay inside with her and her husband's animules instead. They have several, so let me introduce:

Igmu the grey and Kamir the tux are the girl cats. Igmu is commander in chief of the household... If she stares at somebody, they instantly lie down and look somewhere else... and as innocent as they possibly can.

Mary the snake wasss very busssy knocking things over, and there had been a coup in the gerbil-palace where the old queen was dethroned by one of her own daughters - very distressing to their humans. Gerbils had to be separated to restore order. Punishments involving Mary were discussed.... I won't get into the details.
I forgot to take pictures of the horses, but there's an icelandic horse and a large ?oldenborger horse in the household as well... plus Mary's fuds of course... but we try not to think of them too much.
We also went to the zoo and saw not one but TWO two-toed sloths. (Did I tell you I like sloths? I do!!)
We also saw another of my favorite animals... the manatee.

My pictures are horrible, but you can sort of see them munching on lettuce. The zoo had some really great habitats, where we could walk around inside a dome with animals roaming free around us. Oh, and the penguins were fantastic, but by then my camera had run out of battery.
So... basket weaving was postponed to sometime later, but I had a great time.
Kitty would like to point out that her fur lined windowsill is of course from recycled faux fur

The royal windowsill nap spot has access both to the lovely view of the garden, and a more private compartment overlooking the serving human's desk

We have important businesses to attend to.
don't buy merino wool.
I had no idea
I thought sheep were treated fairly decently compared to animals that are stuck in stables
I didn't think wool production was particularly abusive
so I was a bit shocked seeing this in the news.
Warning
this is nasty:
Australian lambs have huge bits of skin cut off their backside without any anesthetics.
It's done to avoid fly attacks... which are obviously also bad, but there are better ways of preventing flies.
Below, there is a website with photos and below that, a little video about the abuse.
They are both very unpleasant,
so watch at your own risk.
how stereotypical can you be? a ball of string? Urracá? you can do better than this!
But definitely points for the extent of the chaos,
the timing (doing it Sunday morning while human sleeps in),
and a few points for the artistic execution...
Let's give it an overall 7 out of 10 from the Danish judge.
then I stumbled across these two and HAD to share them with you.
