Look, the magnolia is flowering
That's the view from my new office. My department is in an old hospital. The old brick buildings are used for the university now, but it's protected as heritage, so they can't change even the colors on the walls - the class rooms still go by "the 16-bed room". Our department actually lies in the Dr's residences... so there are old bathtubs in the bathrooms!! and a kitchen on each floor - and a little garden out back with magnolia trees.

Me and the cats are busy packing AGAIN... I get a bit depressed thinking about how much time I spent painting, hanging up curtains and lamps, figuring out the best way to fit my life into this space... and now I have to do it all over again... and just for a year. My job is a one year contract (somebody else's maternity leave). If all works out and they get more money, they might want to keep me... but so far I only know that I'll stay for one year... The new place is painted and comes with curtains, so it isn't really that bad...
Just packing and moving is a drag.
The cat's help me though:

I know I've mentioned this before, but I just love old buildings and I'm afraid this one makes that magnolia tree seem dull compared to it's beauty!
The kitties seem to be adjusting very well and I don't think they're going to let go of you that easy after a year. You're one of a kind :)
Except the old hospital building I am in is a bit different style - it looks like a tired old hospital with yellow and red brick stripes... I'll get pictures taken eventually.
We're actually soon moving into an old luxury apartment in a house like this one - just one street over.
I get a *high* from the architecture of most of the old buildings. I'm going downtown (DC) in a couple hours to spend the day with a friend. She thinks I'm crazy because I spend just as much time marveling at the building as I do going inside.
btw.. tired old buildings need love, too!
- it was probably built on the outskirts of town at the time. Copenhagen had two "moat" like defence lines. The hospital is between the two. The botanical garden has a bit of what's left of the first moat in it, and the lakes on the other side of the hospital was the second moat.
So this building was maybe from around the turn of the century... at least the white stripy bottom floor facade thingy was quite fashionable around the turn of the century. The coloured glass I actually thought was a thing of the 20's... but ermn I have no clue... Maybe they put a year on one of the buildings, I'll have a look around... or ask somebody.
I both like and dislike hospitals (hate the smell) but this one is full of students and life and craziness... so you don't really notice it. Besides, I'm in the Dr's living quarters - There shouldn't have been any more suffering there than any other residential house.
I hate moving just about more than anything. I've done a lot of it and it's no fun for sure...and a year will just fly by....
It is a very beautiful campus though....Is it ok to call it a campus ?? The tree is incredible !! The buildings remind me a lot of England..
If you like it, I really hope you get to stay, so you won't have to tire the kitties out with all that packing...I know they're such a big help though.

Your photos are gorgeous and your kitties are big helpers like mine! :) I am sorry that life causes a lot of moving and packing for you. It is annoying, but I am happy for your that you have two fuzzy beings that will make any place a home. That is their magic!
Lovely building, lovely photos, cute kitties. Score!
